Our pup, Mickey, has a complicated relationship with his Doggles dog goggles. When I first got him to wear them, he tried shaking them off. The next time we went for a ride, I promised that it would be easier for him to spot squirrels out the window with his eyes protected — and he left them on! After a while, he seemed to recognize the advantages of being able to stick his head out the car window without his eyes watering from the rushing air or being pelted by bugs and airborne debris.
Doggles were the first to design and create eye protection specifically for dogs. Doggles are not only safe and durable, but also come in a wide range of styles and colors to suit your pup’s unique personality. And importantly, all Doggles feature 100% UV protection, anti-fog, and anti-shatter.
Mickey’s Doggles are made for larger dogs, with an extra-wide nose bridge. The padded and flexible rubber frame is fitted comfortably with soft, elastic adjustable head and chin straps. This style also uses the Doggles interchangeable lens system (ILS) that lets you swap the lenses for other colors.
Now Mickey rolls with his Doggles for the entire car ride because they let him live his best dog life. Even so, he only tolerates them during the trip, and as soon as the ride is over, he’s pawing to get them off. But with his Doggles on, he can safely keep watch out the window and pretend he’s flying:
The Pros and Cons of Doggles
While they aren’t Mickey’s favorite accessory, Doggles offer great benefits:
Pros:
- Protect dogs’ eyes from debris, wind, and sunlight while riding with their head out the window
- Durable shatterproof lenses block 100% of UV rays
- Interchangeable lenses come in various tints and designs
- Help prevent eye infections and irritation
Cons:
- Some dogs dislike having something on their head
- Putting them on can be a challenge, especially for uncooperative pups
- Can shift around on some head shapes if not properly adjusted
So while getting Doggles on your dog might involve some creative treat distraction, they do a nice job of protecting your pup’s precious peepers. And for enabling his beloved car ride bliss, I’d say Mickey approves.
If you think your dog could benefit from protective eyewear for car rides or other eye-risk activities, I recommend giving Doggles a try. Just make sure to properly size and adjust them to your dog’s head, and maybe promise a squirrel sighting the first few times! With some patience and a pocketful of treats, you can convert your pup into a Doggles devotee like Mickey.
